CIVIL ENGINEERING COURSES, CURRICULUM & PROGRAM RESOURCES

The Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE) program requires 128 credit hours to complete the degree. You can navigate your own course with diverse electives, and you may pursue a concentration or minor to develop your expertise in a particular area.

In addition, you have the opportunity to hone skills in leadership, teamwork, creativity, and entrepreneurship in classes, extracurricular activities, and more. These competencies are essential to every successful engineer.

Typically, the BSCE degree program takes four years to complete. If you choose to participate in co-op, you will graduate in five years.

  • Four-Year Curriculum
  • Learning Outcomes

  • In your fourth year of study, you put your engineering skills to the test through immersive capstone classes. Collaborating with your teammates and professor mentor, you explore, plan, and design new solutions to real civil engineering challenges. The capstone project helps you cultivate career-ready proficiency and gain first-hand experience working as a civil engineer.

    Recent capstone projects include:
鈼    Ohio Department of Transportation Improvement Project - Students worked to increase safety and traffic operations at the intersection of SR 117 and SR 501 near Lima, OH. The project consisted of a feasibility study and final design.

鈼    Acid Mine Drainage Design Remediation 鈥 Students worked with an NGO, Rural Action, and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources to design remediation approaches for a stream impacted by acid mine drainage in Southeast Ohio.

鈼    Steel Bridge 鈥 Students designed, fabricated, and constructed a conceptual scaled steel bridge as part of the ASCE Regional Conference鈥檚 Steel Bridge competition.

The world is our laboratory

Faculty-led expeditions take you beyond classroom walls to witness civil engineering in action, like ongoing civil engineering projects, public works infrastructure, and natural systems. Even on campus, you and your fellow students spend time outside learning surveying techniques, studying traffic patterns, and testing if a concrete canoe can float. It's all part of the civil engineering experience at 麻豆社.

It may seem that a smaller school provides less opportunities, but the opposite is actually true. The fact that 麻豆社 is smaller gives you the chance to grow closer with your professors and peers. This is an experience that you won鈥檛 get at larger schools, and it helps make 麻豆社 feel more like a family than just a school.
